1. AGREEMENT TO TERMS
These Terms of Service constitute an agreement between you and Waters and Acland Digital Ltd, doing business as Waters & Acland Digital (“Waters & Acland”, “we”, “us” or “our”), concerning your access to and use of this website and the online services, membership areas, community features and digital content connected with it (collectively, the “Site”).
Waters and Acland Digital Ltd is registered in England and has its registered office at 22-25 Staveley Mill Yard, Kendal, Cumbria LA8 9LR, England.
By accessing or using the Site, registering for an account or purchasing a product or membership, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with these Terms, you should not use the Site.
Additional terms, policies or information displayed in connection with a particular product, promotion or service may also apply and are incorporated into these Terms where relevant.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will indicate when changes were most recently made. Continued use of the Site following an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms where permitted by law.
The Site is intended for users aged 18 or over. Persons under the age of 18 are not permitted to register for or use the Online School.
2. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
Unless otherwise stated, the Site and its content are owned or controlled by Waters & Acland or used under licence. This includes website design, text, photographs, graphics, drawings, plans, videos, audio, tutorials, course materials, project instructions, downloadable resources, branding, logos and software.
Content is provided for your personal, non-commercial learning and use only. Purchasing a course, membership or other product grants you access to the relevant content but does not transfer ownership of the intellectual property.
Unless expressly permitted by us, content may not be copied, reproduced, republished, uploaded, distributed, sold, licensed, publicly displayed, transmitted or commercially exploited.
Course and membership materials may not be used to create or deliver competing teaching materials, courses, tutorials or commercial training services without our prior written permission.
3. USER REPRESENTATIONS
By using the Site, you confirm that:
- You have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms.
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You will provide accurate and current account information.
- You will not access the Site using unauthorised automated means.
- You will not use the Site for an unlawful or unauthorised purpose.
- Your use of the Site will comply with applicable laws and regulations.
We may restrict or suspend an account where information supplied is materially false, inaccurate or misleading, or where these Terms have been breached.
4. FEES & PAYMENT
Prices are displayed at the point of purchase and are normally charged in Pounds Sterling unless otherwise stated.
Payments are processed through our payment provider. You agree to provide accurate and current billing information and authorise the applicable payment to be taken when you complete a purchase.
Where you purchase a recurring subscription, you authorise recurring payments to be taken at the frequency and price disclosed at the point of purchase until the subscription is cancelled or otherwise ends.
We may change prices for future purchases or future subscription periods. Any price applicable to a transaction will be displayed or communicated as required before that transaction takes place.
We reserve the right to correct genuine pricing errors and to refuse or cancel an order where reasonably necessary, subject to applicable consumer law.
5. CANCELLATION, SUBSCRIPTIONS & DIGITAL CONTENT
5.1 Recurring Subscriptions
Standard Workshop Membership is an annual subscription and automatically renews each year unless cancelled before the next renewal date.
Some customers may retain legacy recurring subscriptions, including Tutor Support or Discord-based memberships purchased under previous Waters & Acland arrangements. These may continue in accordance with their original arrangements until cancelled, expired, discontinued or transitioned to another Waters & Acland service.
Subscriptions administered through the Waters & Acland Online School can be managed from your Online School account. Workshop Members can also access their subscription details from the Status area of the Workshop Member Dashboard.
Discord-based subscriptions are administered separately and cannot be cancelled through the Online School. Please see section 6.4.
5.2 Cancellation
Cancelling a recurring subscription prevents the next scheduled renewal payment. Unless otherwise stated, access remains available until the end of the current paid subscription period.
Partial refunds or credits for unused subscription periods are not normally provided, except where required by law or expressly offered by Waters & Acland.
Promotional pricing, coupons and discounts may be subject to their own conditions. Where a temporary discount applies to a recurring subscription, the subscription may subsequently renew at the applicable standard price where this was disclosed when the subscription was purchased.
5.3 Digital Content & Cancellation Rights
Digital content, including the Online Course, tutorials, projects, videos and other streamed or downloadable material, may be supplied immediately following purchase.
Where applicable, by requesting immediate access to digital content you acknowledge that your statutory cancellation rights may be affected once supply of that digital content begins.
Nothing in these Terms limits statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded, including rights that may apply where digital content is faulty, not as described or not supplied with reasonable care and skill.
If you have a question about a purchase or subscription, contact digital@watersandacland.co.uk.
6. ONLINE COURSE, WORKSHOP MEMBERSHIP & SUPPORT SERVICES
6.1 Online Course
The Waters & Acland Online Course is sold as a one-time purchase and is added to your Waters & Acland Online School account.
A one-time purchase provides ongoing access to the purchased course content for as long as that content is made available through the Online School. If the platform or purchased content is discontinued, we will make reasonable efforts, where practicable, to provide an alternative means of accessing the purchased material.
Purchase of the Online Course does not automatically include future courses, membership resources or other products subsequently released unless expressly stated.
6.1.1 Workshop Membership Included With the Online Course
Online Course purchases made from 16 September 2026 include three months of complimentary Workshop Membership.
This complimentary three-month membership does not automatically renew. No further Workshop Membership payment will be taken unless the customer separately purchases a recurring Workshop Membership.
Customers who purchased the Complete Online Course on or before 15 September 2026 retain any discount access included with their original purchase for the applicable 12-month period.
6.1.2 Course Suitability & Workshop Requirements
The Online Course, projects and tutorials are intended for users with access to an appropriate home workshop and suitable woodworking tools. Successful completion assumes access to suitable tools, workholding, clamps and other workshop equipment, or the willingness to acquire these over time.
Some projects assume access to timber suppliers, machining or thicknessing services, or the ability to work from pre-prepared timber. Waters & Acland does not supply timber or project materials unless expressly stated.
Project dimensions are provided as guidance and may be adapted to suit available timber, tooling and workshop constraints.
Tool lists are intended as guidance. An appropriate workshop setup remains necessary to undertake woodworking safely and accurately.
If you are unsure whether your tooling, workshop setup or experience is suitable, please review our Tool Requirements Guidance before purchasing or attempting a project.
6.1.3 Discounts, Offers & Promotions
Discounts, promotional pricing and special offers associated with Waters & Acland products or services are subject to their individual terms and availability and may be amended or withdrawn.
Discounts included with Complete Online Course purchases made on or before 15 September 2026 remain available, where applicable, for 12 months from the original purchase date.
For Online Course purchases made from 16 September 2026 onwards, discount access is provided through Workshop Membership and therefore requires an active Workshop Membership.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, offers cannot be combined with other discounts or promotional codes or applied retrospectively.
Where a discount is provided by an external supplier, its operation, exclusions, availability and continuation are controlled by that supplier and cannot be guaranteed by Waters & Acland.
6.2 Workshop Membership
Workshop Membership is an annual subscription providing access to selected member resources, community features, Waters & Acland project support and member benefits within the Online School.
Standard Workshop Membership is billed annually and automatically renews unless cancelled before the next renewal date. The applicable price is shown at the point of purchase.
Cancelling prevents the next renewal payment. Membership and its associated benefits remain available until the end of the current paid membership period.
Workshop Membership does not include ownership of the Online Course or other separately purchased course content.
Membership benefits may include:
- Workshop articles and practical resources
- Selected tool preparation, sharpening and joinery tutorials
- Tutor Q&A relating to Waters & Acland projects, provided exclusively through the designated Tutor Q&A Forum (see Section 6.6)
- Members’ community areas and chatrooms
- Waters & Acland member discounts
- Discounts or benefits offered by selected third-party suppliers
- Other member-only resources made available from time to time
The precise content, resources, discounts, suppliers, community features and other benefits included with Workshop Membership may change. We may add, modify, replace or discontinue individual benefits or features where reasonably necessary.
Third-party discounts are subject to the relevant supplier’s own terms, exclusions and availability and may be changed or withdrawn by that supplier.
6.3 Complimentary, Promotional & Goodwill Access
Waters & Acland may occasionally provide complimentary, promotional, goodwill, student, trial, beta or other discretionary access to courses, membership areas, tutorials, projects or support services.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, complimentary or promotional access does not constitute a purchase and does not create permanent ownership or buy-and-keep rights.
Such access may be time-limited or conditional upon another entitlement, membership, course or subscription remaining active.
We may modify, restrict, suspend or withdraw complimentary or promotional access where the relevant promotion or entitlement ends, where its conditions are no longer met, or where the access was granted on a temporary or discretionary basis.
6.4 Legacy Discord Memberships & Online School Access
Waters & Acland previously operated its online course, tutor support and community through Discord. New customers can no longer join this service, but existing Discord memberships may continue while the legacy service remains available.
Discord subscriptions remain separate from accounts, purchases and memberships held through the Waters & Acland Online School. Registering with or gaining access to the Online School does not automatically cancel, replace or alter an existing Discord subscription.
Eligible existing Discord members may be offered complimentary access to specified areas of the Online School while their Discord subscription remains active.
Details and registration access are provided to eligible members within the Waters & Acland Discord server, currently through the #new-online-school channel.
Complimentary Online School access provided in connection with a Discord membership:
- Remains conditional upon the associated Discord subscription remaining active.
- Does not constitute a separate purchase of the Online Course.
- Does not create permanent ownership or buy-and-keep rights unless expressly stated.
- May end when the associated Discord subscription expires, is cancelled or otherwise becomes inactive.
Discord subscriptions are administered separately through the member’s Discord/Ternary Developments account. They cannot be cancelled through the Waters & Acland Online School.
Members wishing to cancel a Discord subscription must do so through their original Discord/Ternary account or contact Waters & Acland for assistance.
Waters & Acland may change, migrate or discontinue the legacy Discord service or associated transition arrangements. Where reasonably practicable, affected members will be provided with information about available transition options.
6.5 Legacy Tutor Support
Standalone Tutor Support subscriptions are no longer available to new customers.
Existing monthly or annual Tutor Support subscriptions and previously granted Tutor Support entitlements may continue until their applicable expiry, renewal or transition date.
Existing Tutor Support customers may be transitioned to Workshop Membership as Waters & Acland consolidates support and community services within the Online School.
Where this occurs, affected customers will be provided with information about the transition and the access or membership period applicable to them.
Any recurring payment associated with a legacy Tutor Support subscription will be handled in accordance with the transition information provided to the affected customer.
6.6 Tutor Q&A & Project Support — Scope, Availability & Fair Use
Tutor support is provided as occasional guidance relating to Waters & Acland projects only and is intended to support learning and skill development.
Tutor support is provided exclusively through the designated Tutor Q&A Forum, accessible from the Online School dashboard. We do not provide individual tutor support by email, telephone, private message, video call or other direct communication channels.
Tutor support does not constitute personal mentoring, consultancy, formal training or one-to-one coaching.
Tutor support does not include:
- One-to-one personal mentoring or individual correspondence
- Telephone calls, video calls, emails or private messaging
- Immediate or priority responses
- Support for non-Waters & Acland projects
- Unlimited or unrestricted tutor access
Questions and tutor responses posted within the Tutor Q&A Forum may be visible to other members with access to that forum, allowing the wider community to benefit from the guidance provided.
Response times are not guaranteed. We aim to respond to relevant project-related questions within a reasonable period where possible, subject to tutor availability, workload and the complexity or volume of questions received.
We may make reasonable changes to the format, location or delivery method of Tutor Q&A or project support, including moving the forum to another area or platform. Any material changes to the availability of tutor support will be communicated to affected members.
Support may also be restricted where usage is excessive, repetitive or outside the intended scope of Waters & Acland project support.
Changes to the availability or format of Tutor Q&A do not remove access rights to Online Course content separately purchased by the customer.
Guidance & Responsibility
Tutor guidance is provided for educational purposes. Although tutors aim to provide accurate and useful information, individual workshop conditions, tooling, materials and skill levels vary.
You remain responsible for assessing whether guidance is suitable for your circumstances and for carrying out woodworking operations safely.
6.7 Individual Use & Account Sharing
Courses, subscriptions, memberships and support services are intended for individual use and access is granted to the named account holder.
Shared accounts, account pooling or access through institutional, educational or organisational networks is not permitted unless expressly agreed by Waters & Acland.
Accounts found to be shared or materially misused may be restricted, suspended or terminated.
6.8 Service Availability & Platform Changes
Online services may occasionally be interrupted by maintenance, technical problems, platform changes or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Where reasonably practicable, we may provide alternative access to purchased course materials if a platform used to deliver them is discontinued.
Community services, complimentary access, discounts and Tutor Q&A do not carry the same ongoing-access entitlement as separately purchased Online Course content.
Video Content
Course and project videos are provided for streaming within the platform. Unless expressly stated otherwise, video files are not available for download or offline use.
Videos and tutorials are provided for personal, non-commercial use and may not be downloaded, screen-recorded, copied, shared or redistributed without permission.
6.9 Platform & Subscription Management Changes
Waters & Acland may change the systems used to deliver courses, memberships, subscriptions, community features or account management. This may include moving services to another platform, changing access methods or asking users to re-register.
We will aim to minimise disruption and provide reasonable notice where practicable.
6.10 Safety, Tools & Personal Responsibility
Our courses, tutorials, projects and support materials are provided for educational and informational purposes.
Woodworking involves inherent risks. Demonstrations involving hand tools and power tools are general examples and do not replace appropriate professional or in-person instruction where required.
Our Online Course does not provide formal certification or comprehensive machine-safety training. It demonstrates furniture making techniques, processes and workflows for students who have appropriate workshop experience or access to suitable training.
If you are unfamiliar with, inexperienced in or uncertain about the safe use of any tool, machinery or technique shown in our content, you should seek appropriate qualified instruction before attempting it yourself.
You are responsible for:
- Assessing your own skill level and physical capability.
- Using tools, machinery and materials safely and appropriately.
- Following manufacturers’ instructions and safety guidance.
- Following applicable laws and local regulations.
- Securing workpieces appropriately.
- Using appropriate personal protective equipment.
With hand tools, maintain control of the tool and workpiece, keep hands clear of cutting edges and use appropriate workholding.
Appropriate PPE may include eye, hearing, respiratory and dust protection depending upon the operation being undertaken.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Waters & Acland is not responsible for injury, damage or loss arising from unsafe, inappropriate or unauthorised use of tools, machinery, materials, tutorials or guidance.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
Experience & Outcomes
Furniture making is a practical craft and individual outcomes depend upon factors including experience, patience, tooling, materials and execution. Waters & Acland cannot guarantee a particular finished result.
7. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES

8. USER GENERATED CONTRIBUTIONS
The Site includes community areas where users may create, submit, post, display or share content including text, comments, questions, photographs, images, links, suggestions and other material (“Contributions”).

- Be knowingly false, misleading or fraudulent.
- Contain unlawful, threatening, abusive or harassing material.
- Violate another person’s privacy.
- Contain spam, mass solicitation or unauthorised advertising.

8.1 Commercial Promotion & External Links
The Online School community is intended for learning, discussion and the sharing of relevant woodworking knowledge and experience.
Members may share links to relevant woodworking tools, books, materials, suppliers, articles and other resources where those links genuinely contribute to the discussion.
The community must not be used to advertise, market or promote a member’s own business, products, services, website, courses or other commercial interests without prior permission from Waters & Acland.
Unsolicited promotional posts, advertisements, affiliate links, repeated self-promotion, lead-generation posts, spam or other content posted primarily for commercial gain may be removed without notice. We may warn, restrict, suspend or terminate an account where a member seriously or repeatedly breaches these rules.
Where a member has a commercial or financial connection to a product, supplier or service they recommend, that connection should be clearly disclosed.
8.2 Approved Suppliers
Suppliers specifically approved by Waters & Acland may share relevant products, offers or events within the community where permitted by us. Promotional content must be transparent, relevant and not disruptive.
We may remove or restrict supplier content that is excessive, misleading or inconsistent with the purpose of the community.
8.3 Private Member-to-Member Sales
Members may occasionally offer their own woodworking tools or equipment for private sale where this is relevant and appropriate.
These are private transactions between members. Waters & Acland does not facilitate, verify or guarantee listings, payments, condition, delivery or agreements between members and is not responsible for disputes arising from those transactions.
9. CONTRIBUTION LICENCE
You retain ownership of content that you post to the community and remain responsible for that content.
By posting content to areas of the Site designed for sharing, you grant Waters & Acland the limited rights reasonably necessary to host, display, store and make that content available through the Site and its community features.
We may access, store, process and use information and personal data you provide in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Suggestions and general feedback about the Site may be used by us to improve our products and services without an obligation to compensate you.
10. SUBMISSIONS
General comments, suggestions, ideas and feedback submitted to Waters & Acland about the Site or our services may be used by us for legitimate business purposes, including improving our products, content and services.
This does not transfer ownership of intellectual property in photographs, designs, furniture or other original work you share through the community.
11. THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES & CONTENT
The Site may contain links to websites, products, resources or services operated by third parties.
We are not responsible for the availability, content, accuracy, privacy practices or operation of third-party websites. A link does not necessarily constitute an endorsement unless expressly stated.
Purchases made from third-party suppliers are transactions between you and that supplier and are subject to the supplier’s own terms, policies and consumer obligations.
You should review the applicable terms and privacy policies before using or purchasing from third-party websites.
12. COMMERCIAL PARTNERS, SUPPLIERS & AFFILIATE LINKS
Waters & Acland may feature selected suppliers, commercial partners, member discounts or relevant third-party products within the Site.
Some external links may be affiliate links through which Waters & Acland may receive a commission or other benefit if a purchase is made. Where appropriate, such commercial relationships will be disclosed.
Supplier participation or inclusion within a discount or resources area does not make Waters & Acland responsible for that supplier’s products, services, availability, pricing or fulfilment.

If a selected entrant cannot be contacted, does not respond within the stated period or cannot be verified, another winner may be selected.
13.6 Data & Privacy
Personal information collected specifically for a giveaway will be used to administer the promotion and contact the winner. Entry into a giveaway does not by itself constitute consent to receive marketing emails.
We will never require a giveaway winner to provide payment details through social media in order to receive a prize.
13.7 Liability & Governing Law
We are not responsible for entries lost, delayed or prevented by technical or network problems outside our reasonable control.

14. GOVERNING LAW
These Terms and disputes arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer rights or jurisdictional protections that apply to you.
15. SITE MANAGEMENT
We may monitor the Site for breaches of these Terms and take reasonable action to protect members, our content, our systems and the proper operation of the Online School.
This may include moderating or removing posts, restricting community privileges, suspending accounts, limiting access or terminating use of the Site where reasonably necessary.
We are not obliged to monitor every contribution before it is published and cannot guarantee that inappropriate content will always be identified immediately.
16. PRIVACY

By using the Site, you acknowledge that personal data may be processed as described in that policy and in accordance with applicable data-protection law.
17. TERM & TERMINATION
These Terms remain applicable while you use the Site or hold an account with us.
We may restrict, suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary because of a serious or repeated breach of these Terms, misuse of the Site, unlawful activity, security concerns or behaviour that materially disrupts the community or our services.
Where appropriate and reasonably practicable, we may first provide a warning or opportunity to correct a breach. Serious misconduct, spam, fraud, abuse or security threats may result in immediate action.
Termination for breach does not give a user the right to create a replacement account to circumvent that restriction.
18. MODIFICATIONS & INTERRUPTIONS
We may update, modify or discontinue parts of the Site and its features from time to time.
The Site may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, software updates, hosting problems, technical faults or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, but we will take reasonable steps to maintain access to purchased digital content and restore services following interruptions.
19. DISPUTE RESOLUTION
If you have a complaint or dispute concerning the Site, a purchase, membership or service, please contact us first at digital@watersandacland.co.uk so that we have an opportunity to resolve the matter.
Nothing in this section limits any statutory rights or dispute resolution options available to you under applicable law.

Information on the Site may occasionally contain typographical errors, inaccuracies or omissions relating to descriptions, pricing, availability or other information.
We may correct errors and update information where reasonably necessary, subject to applicable consumer law and any contractual rights arising from completed purchases.
21. DISCLAIMER
The Site, tutorials and resources are provided for educational and informational purposes. While we take reasonable care in producing our content, woodworking techniques must be assessed in the context of your own tools, materials, workshop, experience and circumstances.
We do not guarantee that the Site will always be free from errors, interruptions or technical problems.
We are not responsible for the content, availability or operation of third-party websites linked from the Site.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, guarantees, remedies or other rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable consumer law.
22. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Waters & Acland is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the Site, third-party websites or tutorial content where such liability may lawfully be excluded.
Where liability may lawfully be limited, our aggregate liability in connection with a particular purchased course, membership or service will not exceed the amount paid by you for the relevant product or service giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.
Certain jurisdictions do not permit particular exclusions or limitations. Where those laws apply, the relevant exclusion or limitation applies only to the extent legally permitted.
23. RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR USE OF THE SITE
You are responsible for your own use of the Site and for content you submit or publish.
You may be responsible for losses or claims arising from your unlawful use of the Site, infringement of another person’s rights or material breach of these Terms, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
24. USER DATA
We maintain information necessary to operate accounts, memberships, course progress and Site functionality.
We take reasonable measures to protect Site data but no online system can guarantee against every technical failure, security incident or data loss.

27. MISCELLANEOUS
These Terms, together with policies and specific terms incorporated by reference, constitute the agreement governing use of the Site and the relevant Waters & Acland digital services.
Failure by Waters & Acland to enforce a provision on one occasion does not waive our right to enforce it subsequently.
If part of these Terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, that provision will be treated as severable to the extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, employment relationship or agency relationship between you and Waters & Acland.
