Term Two, Week Five: Self-Design Projects Coming Together Nicely!
We’re now at the end of week five, and the Designer Maker students have been hard at work on their self-designed projects. Since our last update in week three, many students have completed drawer fitting and carcase refinement, and have moved on to building their legs and bases. There’s a wonderful variety of designs in the workshop right now, from bedside tables to desks and drinks cabinets. All the dovetails, carcases, and drawers are looking very crisp indeed.
Dalton’s Bedside Cabinet
Dalton has completed his walnut bedside cabinet – sanded and oiled with linseed. It features two piston-fitted drawers with ash internals and a custom wooden hinged door. The precision and finish make it an absolute stunner! 👀
Jon’s Desk
Jon is putting the finishing touches on his desk, spending the last few days sanding, raising the grain, and working meticulously through the grits. We captured some WIP (but nearly finished) photos, and the piece is looking beautiful. The piston-fitted drawers with double half-blind dovetails are superb — not always visible, but a treat every time they are opened! We can’t wait to see it oiled and in the photo booth!
Momentum is strong in the workshop at the moment, and the next two weeks promise more beautiful pieces coming to fruition. Some students on the 2-term Designer Maker course may even have time for a small additional project, so they really are firing on all cylinders at the moment.

- 12-Week Long Course Starting April 20th — very limited places remaining

- 4-Week Furniture Making Course Starting 29th June — spaces available
- Designer Maker Course Our next 3-Term Designer Maker course starting in September and is now fully booked. The 2-term course is nearly full, so do get in touch soon if you’re interested — It’s a particularly good fit for international students and may align with a 26-week study visa (subject to current visa requirements).
