Bespoke Commission: Corner Unit and Bookcase

Recently completed, this bespoke corner unit and accompanying bookcase form the latest chapter in an ongoing relationship with a long‑standing client. Designed to sit comfortably alongside a previously commissioned sideboard, these pieces continue a shared design language developed over time: refined, considered, and deeply personal.

At every stage, the process has been collaborative. Working closely with the client, the aim was to ensure that each detail felt exactly as imagined and hoped for, both visually and functionally. The result is furniture that feels quietly confident in its setting, while rewarding closer inspection.

A Dialogue Between Heritage and Contemporary Design

Designed by William Acland, the pieces draw on an appreciation of local arts and crafts heritage, paired with contemporary, clean-lined forms. European oak forms the foundation of the work, complemented by fumed oak elements that introduce depth and contrast. Crisp joinery details bring clarity and precision, allowing the materials and proportions to speak without excess.

This balance of tradition meeting modern restraint has become a defining feature of the work created for this client. Each new piece feels connected, yet distinct, building a cohesive collection rather than a series of isolated commissions.

Built on Trust and Continuity

Having made many pieces for this client over the years, there is a shared understanding that allows the design process to evolve naturally. Decisions are informed by previous projects, the character of the space, and a growing confidence in how the furniture will live and be used.

When these latest pieces were delivered, the conversation didn’t end there. In fact, we left with commissions for four more pieces — a clear sign of trust, shared vision, and an ongoing creative dialogue. With that, it’s time for sketches, proportions, and ideas to return to the drawing board once again.

Our Approach to Bespoke Furniture

At the heart of our work is a commitment to designing and making bespoke, fine furniture for clients who value exceptional craftsmanship. Since 2006, we’ve created both freestanding and fitted pieces, each one tailored to the individual client and meticulously built by our skilled team, led by designer William Acland.

Our dedication to excellence has been recognised with three prestigious Bespoke Guild Marks, placing our work among the finest in the world. Whether it’s a refined dining table or a bold, one‑of‑a‑kind statement piece, every commission is approached with care, creativity, and a deep respect for materials and process.

Designing and making fine furniture for those who appreciate the beauty of handmade pieces is a true joy. When paired with an engaged client, the results can be truly special. Whether you arrive with a clear vision or would like to begin the design journey alongside William, we welcome enquiries for projects of all sizes and pride ourselves on working within your budget. As the saying goes, no job is too big or too small.
